Last summer, the CreateCrochet Team donated over 50 handmade scarves for the Operation Gratitude project. The scarves were sent to troops overseas to help keep them warm this winter.

Operation Gratitude, Part 4

The CreateCrochet team has completed its goal of crocheting 50 scarves for Operation Gratitude! Here are some of the lovely scarves that will be included in Operation Gratitude care packages for the troops.

All of the scarves in this group were crocheted by Jennie, owner of JBCrochetDelights, a wonderful Etsy shop. Jennie has crocheted a total of 10 scarves for Operation Gratitude!

CreateCrochet New Team Challenge!

The CreateCrochet Team has begun a new team challenge. The theme is "Very Veggie" and the challenge is to create a new crocheted item in the "Very Veggie" theme. The only rule to the challenge is that some part of the item must be crocheted. Deadline is August 31st.

After that, our next challenge will be “Anything Pumpkin” with a deadline of September 30.

There are no prizes for this contest, just a lot of fun!

Operation Gratitude

This is a crocheted loop scrubbie for cleaning all around your home. This cute little scrubbie is made with bright pink and yellow Cafe Kitchen yarn by Daruma. It measures 4.25" (11cm) across. This scrubbie is two sided--there are fluffy loops crocheted into each side to help you clean and shine all around the house.

Cafe Kitchen is a fluffy, 100% acrylic yarn that has been blended with positive silver ions, which makes it more resistant to mildew and bacteria than regular acrylic yarn. The acrylic yarn holds it's shape well and scrubs like a breeze.

The Japanese call these scrubbies "Magic Scrubbers." They use them to clean without detergent in the kitchen and bath.

Operation Gratitude Crochet Project

Our team has agreed to participate in a crochet project for Operation Gratitude. We are going to knit scarves to donate to the Operation Gratitude project to be included in care packages for service men and women.

This project is being organized by the CreateCrochet Team leader Kristin of KristynsKreations.etsy.com. Any readers of this blog who would like to knit or crochet a scarf for this project, please feel free to go to Kristin's shop and send a convo, or post a comment here on the blog with a way for us to contact you.

Operation Gratitude seeks to lift morale and put smiles on faces of our service men and women by sending care packages addressed to individual Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines deployed overseas. Operation Gratitude care packages contain food, hygiene products, entertainment items and personal letters of appreciation, all wrapped with good wishes of love and support. Check out their website here for more information.

Here is the info you need to crochet a scarf for this project: there is no set pattern you must follow. The scarf should be 5-7 inches in width only, and no more then 50 inches long. Subtle colors are preferred -- maybe go with greens,blacks, tans, browns, maybe a little blue, white -- stuff similar to military uniform colors. All yarns are accepted, but go for something soft.

The scarves do not need to be shipped until fall, so we will be sending them to Kristin by the first week of September. Just send an Etsy convo to Kristin for her snail mail address when you are ready to mail your scarf, and she will send the whole box in as one donation.
